NSI offers broadband satellite networks using three VSAT terminals -VSAT Plus II, FlexiDAMA and SkyIP - that meet the requirements of a wide range of applications and services, including Internet access, enterprise networking, telephony trunking, tele-medicine, and video-conferencing. NSI has more than 3,500 of its VSATs deployed with customers in over 50 countries around the world.

"We are seeing continuing demand for our VSAT broadband terminals in various parts of the world because they meet customer needs for advanced communications technology at a very reasonable price. Our products also have special capabilities that go beyond traditional VSAT applications," said Cos Modafferi, General Manager of the Broadband Division.

The end-users of NSI's FlexiDAMA terminal networks in China include the Fire Research Institute in Shanghai and the China Meteorological Administration in Beijing.

Both networks create the potential for repeat business as they each include a complete hub station and a number of remote stations, which will be operated by central government agencies and will be expanded to nationwide coverage. The main applications are for emergency responses during fire, natural disasters, or severe weather conditions.

Customers in China using NSI's VSATPlus II networks include the Pacific Insurance Company, Sichuan Mobile Communications Corporation GSM Extension Project, Changqing Oilfield Company, and the China National Petroleum Corporation.

Depending on the project, applications include voice and data communications providing valuable data transfer and SCADA services as well as providing a satellite link to mobile GSM base stations.

The performance of NSI's installed networks in China has been an important factor in the continuing sales to new customers. "The reliable operation of our oil pipelines is of vital importance and NSI's VSAT network ensures the smooth operation of our pipelines," stated Mr. Mao Longjun, Vice Director of the Changqing Oilfield Company.

The VSAT Plus II supports the most demanding network applications including high-quality voice, low and high-speed data, two-way video conferencing, and fax. The system is scalable, reliable and quick to deploy, and is the most cost-effective satellite communications solution for multi-line and/or multi-application networks in the world.

The FlexiDAMA networking systems use satellites to provide wireless connectivity between terminals geographically dispersed over a wide region. User applications serviced by FlexiDAMA systems can range from simple telephone connectivity to complex intelligent data services such as LAN/WAN and Internet access and broadcast applications like video-conferencing.

"With our established presence in China, we also expect a good reception in the future for our rapidly expanding GlobalWave wireless asset tracking and monitoring service once we have established it in the region," Mr. Ben-David noted.

NSI already has GlobalWave service providers in other parts of the world, including Europe, North and South America, Africa, Middle East, and Australia, and anticipates signing an agreement this year to expand the service to Asia.

GlobalWave is a complete end-to-end wireless data system that allows users to send and receive data messages and automatically track, monitor, and control fixed and mobile assets.

Because GlobalWave provides seamless, wide area, two-way communications, customers not only receive data concerning the location of an asset or an alarm notification when events occur such as a leak in a storage tank, they can also send queries about the current status of their asset and receive an immediate response.

GlobalWave also provides short messaging service when communications devices such as pagers, or hand-held communicators are connected to the terminal.

The GlobalWave wireless data terminals are among the most efficient data terminals in the world. The terminals are extremely powerful, with GPS integrated into every unit, and feature fast, reliable two-way data communications designed to support a full range of input/output devices such as keyboard display units, two-way pagers, hand held devices and various sensors, in the harshest environments.

The terminals are capable of performing a number of functions, including: transmitting information on volume, temperature, pressure, and voltage; producing reports on location and speed; and triggering alarms when sensor thresholds are exceeded. Known as the GlobalWave MT2000, they can operate for several years on batteries or use any source of power using its proprietary smart power management system.
